Shrine of the Monkey farewell gig

Back in 2006 I was priveliged to be asked to review an early gig from Sheffield rock band Shrine of the Monkey. From those early days comprising a set of very well done covers and a handful of their own songs Shrine developed their classic stoner rock sound and added more of their own material over the last five years.
In 2010 their hard worked paid off with the release of the debut album "Under Blackened Skies". Although all original material the album has the feel of something that could have been released in the 70's with a classic sound that will appeal to anyone with a love of real rock music.
I never got to see these guys as much as I would have liked over the years so I was a little sad when they announced their farewell gig at the Noose and Gibbet. No major rifts or 'musical differences' here, Brian wants to take a break and Rick and Kev respect his decision.
A great night was has by all in attendance with Shrine giving 110%. In contrast to the early days their own material now to the fore with songs like "Anthem" and "Take It From Me" now well established classics although I still think their version of "War Pigs" is brilliant.
Thanks to Brian, Kev, Rick and manager Sue - look forward to the reunion gig then.
